# The Sparkling World of Brilliant Cut Diamonds: Your FAQs Answered with a Wink!

.## What is a Brilliant Cut Diamond?

Let’s kick things off with the basics: **What is a brilliant cut diamond?** Think of it as the supermodel of the diamond world! A brilliant cut diamond typically features 58 facets, designed to maximize sparkle and brilliance. It’s the diamond that’s always ready for its close-up—like a celebrity at a red carpet event!

The Brilliant-cut diamond is the pinnacle of Diamond cutting.  The art of the diamond cutting processed has evolved over the centuries becoming more an more refined as new techniques and equipment has been invented.

The first Brilliant-cut being very crude and with only about 17 facets then became the old European-cut in the 1830s and eventually the Round Brilliant-cut in 1919.

This modern Round brilliant-cut is now the most popular and most expensive cut of diamond.

one of the reasons the Brilliant-cut is so expensive is that it has a low yield from the rough, usually less than 50%. this means that half the weight of the stone is lost to the cutting process.

The circular shape ,made up of 58 facets perfectly disburses light throughout the stone creating fire and brilliance.

The most popular and the most expensive shape of all diamond cuts the brilliant cut is absolutely perfect, and ideal for the balance and scintillation of light.

                                                       CUT :

The Brilliant-cut is unlike all other shapes. It is graded for cut ,polish and symmetry whereas all other shapes are only graded for polish and symmetry.

A triple excellent stone is the highest grading a diamond cut can achieve. although there are differences within this.

Hearts and arrows are achieved from a ex,ex.ex cut stone with the highest accuracy, this is an absolutely perfectly cut diamond and will give you the best brilliance.

its important to note that not all ex,ex,ex stones exhibit hearts and arrows ,only ones cut to extreme perfection

                                                          Clarity :

Brilliant-cuts have a very complex appearance so they are great at hiding inclusions. we recommend vs2 or above to guarantee a stone that is clean to the naked eye.

Technically vs2 or above would be regarded as "eye clean"  but we beg to differ.  If you want to push for a larger size or higher colour grade, you can compromise on clarity and certainly find si1 stones that are eye clean ,although only about 15% would qualify.

                                                        Colour :

D, E, F colour diamonds are regarded as "Exceptional white" and carry a higher price tag but the Brilliant-cut is extremely good at masking colour,  if you wish you can go down as far as H or I . We find some clients actually prefer warmer colours

.

 ## Do Brilliant Cut Diamonds Come in Different Colors?

If you’re feeling adventurous, you may be wondering, **do brilliant cut diamonds come in different colors?** Yes! While most brilliant cut diamonds are colorless or near-colorless, they can also be found in fancy colors like pink, blue, yellow, and even green. Colorful diamonds can add a fun twist and make your ring truly one-of-a-kind—perfect for those who want to stand out!

The cut grade of your stone can have a direct impact on colour also.

If you stay above a Vg you should be able to achieve a very bright stone.

remember a bright stone  isn't a white stone but can certainly enhance the stones appearance.

Brilliants are the most commonly cut shape from rough so if your looking for a round stone you should have plenty if options to choose from.

                                             THE FUN STUFF :

When it comes to design the Brilliant-cut is as versatile as it gets . It can stand alone as a Solitaire and just show off its technical superiority or we can get creative.

### 1. **The Classic Solitaire: Less Is More (But It’s Still a Whole Lot!)**
Ah, the solitaire – the little black dress of diamond designs. Simple? Yes. Stunning? Absolutely. The **solitaire setting** puts your brilliant-cut diamond center stage, where it belongs. With no distractions, the diamond gets to do all the talking (and trust me, it’s saying *"Look at me!"*). Whether you're popping the question or just indulging your inner diva, a solitaire lets that round-cut stunner shine without any competition.

### 2. **Pavé Settings: Let’s Take It Up a Notch**
For those who believe you can never have too much glitter, the **pavé setting** is calling your name. Here, your brilliant-cut diamond is placed on a band covered in tiny diamonds. It’s sparkle on sparkle – what more could you want? Pavé settings catch the light from every angle, so whether you’re grabbing a cup of coffee or shaking hands with royalty, people are going to *notice*.

The round shape of the Brilliant-cut can take on many other silhouette's. One way of achieving this is by designing a Halo style.

### 3. **Halo Settings: More Bling for Your Buck**
If the solitaire is too quiet for you, maybe you need a **halo setting** – think "solitaire with an entourage." This design surrounds your brilliant-cut diamond with smaller diamonds, giving it an even BIGGER, brighter look. It’s like the diamond is Beyoncé, and the halo is Destiny’s Child – gorgeous on their own, but together? Pure magic. More sparkle, more shine, and more chances to dazzle the room.

### 5. **Three-Stone Settings: Threes Company (And Really, Really Shiny)**
Want a design with a little extra symbolism? A **three-stone setting** might be just the thing. Traditionally, it represents your past, present, and future – but let’s be real, it mostly represents how much you love diamonds. The center stone is usually the largest, but with two smaller stones flanking it, it’s the ultimate display of brilliance. Three stones, three times the sparkle – it’s a no-brainer!

 ### 6. **Bezel Setting: Protection with a Side of Style**
For the more active types (or the incredibly clumsy – we see you!), a **bezel setting** wraps your brilliant-cut diamond in a protective embrace. It’s sleek, modern, and ultra-secure. No prongs to get caught on your sweater, no worries about chipping the diamond. It’s like bubble wrap for your bling – but chic.
